JANUARY BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
OSAWATOMIE STATE HOSPITAL

Today our campus consists of two hospitals,
Osawatomie State Hospital and Adair Acute Care
at Osawatomie State Hospital. Adair Acute Care at OSH has been certified with CMS and average length of stay is 15 days with a median length of stay of 12 days. The two units focus on stabilization and return to the community. Osawatomie State Hospital is licensed with KDHE. The patient’s average length of stay is 105 days with a median length of stay of 40 days. The 4 units are diverse in their treatment ranging from managing behaviors to forensic programs.

Today, we service 35 counties in Kansas in collaboration with 15 Community Mental Health Centers. During the patients stay they will work with Physicians, Nurses, Mental Health Technicians, Social Workers, Therapists, Activity Therapists, Dietitians and other disciplines. All of the staff work together to achieve the hospital’s mission of providing excellent care that promotes recovery and self-sufficiency. They share values of compassion, teamwork, professionalism, communication, respect and efficiency.

We are happy to share some new things going on here at the hospital as well. The first is of course for anyone that hasn’t heard we have a new Superintendent, Dr. Kristin Feeback. The second item is the new face lift to our main lobby in our administration building and reopening of our auditorium for staff and patient use. Third, we are very proud to say that our hospitals have been selected by Mid-America Addiction Technology Transfer Center to be their pilot site for Trauma Informed Care implementation. Our hospitals were selected as the single site for the Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska region. We are honored to have been selected as the pilot site and are excited to start this journey. The fourth thing we continue to take pride in is our staff. We recently recognized hospital staff that have been with us for 5, 10, 20 and 30 years. We are lucky to have and celebrate three special employees - Dolores Redifer, Kim Fisher and Venita Prothe who have been with the hospital for 30 years!

OSH and ACC looks forward to continuing to keep our focus on the best interests of the Kansans who need and receive our services.

Special For the Month:

The Osawatomie State Hospital will be hosting a coffee on Tuesday, January 28th th at 10:00 a.m. at their facility here in Osawtomie. Please show your support by attending this coffee.
