JUNE BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
OSAWATOMIE ELKS LODGE #921
Elks Lodges bring so much more to
their communities than just a building,
golf course or pool. They are places where
neighbors come together, families share
meals, and children grow up.
Elks Lodges invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, meet the needs of today’s veterans, and improve the quality of life.
The Osawatomie Elks Lodge #921 was organized in June 0f 1904, after which a Non-Fraternal Organization was incorporated and a month later it was chartered, and its first meeting held.
The Osawatomie Elks Lodge was organized through the efforts of Joe S. Johnson, who was an Osawatomie merchant. At the time, the Lodge was sponsored by Ottawa Lodge #803. Joe S. Johnson was the first Exalted Ruler and served 2 terms.
The first meeting was held in the basement of the defunct Farmers and Merchants Bank at 5th and Main Street. Construction of the present Lodge Building at 422 Main was started in 1915 and completed a year later at a cost of $16,287.00. It was dedicated on May 15th 1916.
The Osawatomie Elks Lodge sponsors and participates in numerous community programs such as Veteran’s Day, Flag Day, P.T.A., Oz Food Panty, Fire Department, National Guard, School Programs, Tri-Ko, and many others. Monies raised provide Scholarships each year to Seniors from Osawatomie, Paola, Louisburg, and LaCygne.
